Sat, Aug 23
Westminster United Church
Join us for an evening of musical brilliance featuring violinist Luri Lee, cellist Peter Eom and pianist Kevin Ahfat. Delve into the depths of chamber music as these remarkable artists unveil the mysteries of their craft with an enchanting concert! Tonight’s concert spans a vast emotional range, from the protean levity of Schoenfield’s Café Music to Gershwin's beloved Porgy and Bess. American composer and pianist Paul Schoenfield enjoyed performing cabaret music with friends in a café in Minneapolis, which inspired his popular trio “Café Music.” Commissioned by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the work became an instant concert hall hit. Also on the program are the showpieces. various arrangements of Porgy and Bess by Gershwin and Four Broadway Showtunes by Prutsman. The program culminates in one of the great chamber works the blend lyrical folk idioms with formal sophistication. Its sweeping melodies, rhythmic vitality, and rich harmonic palette offer a deeply satisfying close to a program that celebrates both the intimacy and grandeur of chamber music! This is an indoor concert at the Westminster United Church in Orangeville.
